This piece was made by layering two pieces of pieced fabric, stitching circles, cutting away the top layer and then stitching decorative circles over the trimmed edges. The extra wide binding and beads at the bottom were necessary to make the piece the proper dimensions.
The challenge fabric is pretty obvious I think?
My apologies for the flash photography. I had to do this early this morning before better light was available.
Here are a couple of closeups.
And another:
I have no idea why blogger decided those last two sentences should be underlined, and there wasn't an obvious way to undo it. Time is short... underlined is fine... I guess?
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun piece. Did you cut the circles and then move them around -- sort of "darning" them into place? Nice use of the challenge fabric.
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth! I pieced two layers of patchwork to do this. A light layer on the bottom and a dark layer on top. I lined them up as carefully as I could and pinned them together. Then I stitched circle shapes in the areas I wanted the circles. Then I cut away the dark layer to reveal the light layer underneath and stitched with decorative thread over the initial stitching and the cut away edge. I hope that makes sense!?
